January Newsletter 2021

Feb 02, 2021

PeopleSource would like to wish you all a very happy and prosperous New Year. We hope you all enjoyed your well-earned Christmas break and have come back refreshed and eager to take on 2021- let’s hope it doesn’t throw as much at us as 2020 did. An eventful couple of months since our last correspondence to you; Santa arrived - we hope you got what you wanted, a new lockdown commenced, vaccinations started, and a new US President.

In the news…

After the election of Joe Biden to US President, it was never going to be an easy transition of power. While Trump disputed the election, he also allegedly incited the riot on Capitol Hill that saw windows smashed, security attacked and several fatalities. The one shining light from this chaos was our very own Donie O’Sullivan reporting for CNN. The young Kerry man got a huge reaction as he bravely got into the thick of the action for viewers to understand what was happening. Biden also demonstrated his Irish roots by reciting James Joyce in his farewell speech to Delaware and there are now rumours circulating that the US President may visit in 2021 which would be a nice change from current news headlinest.

Lockdown 3.0, we don’t want to discuss it anymore but will it ever end?  Yes it will!  The vaccine is being rolled out and we can see light at the end of this very long tunnel.  Hang in there!

PeopleSource is once again delighted to sponsor ‘The Investnet Finance Leadership Summit 2021’ which takes place on February 25th - the online webinar has tickets limited to an exclusive 150 delegates only. This will be a half day Virtual show with some excellent and interesting speakers, our very own Rachel T will be saying a few words too!  Tickets are on sale now

We were also delighted to sponsor and attend the joint Leinster Society & Young Professionals event with Karl Henry twice!  There was a technical hitch the first time so we got a re-run.  We are all feeling very motivated to complete our daily steps as a result!

Here are a few other suggestions to help ease the lockdown woes…

With lockdown restrictions not lifting until March, wellness has become an important agenda for everybody. The roads are flooded with people out exercising and it’s great to see! Over the last couple of months, I’ve used Sports Ireland hiking trails site to identify potential trails within my 5km – it’s a gamechanger!

Wine & cheese tasting night was PeopleSource’s Christmas party for 2020. It wasn’t the usual wild night that we are all used too but we enjoyed it thoroughly. With an emphasis on using Irish businesses, we decided to use http://wineonline.ie/. The wine and cheese packs that were sent out through via post looked top class. Well worth doing as part of a team bonding night.

Every few months, we chat about what podcasts we are listening to and what we think everybody have a listen to. So here’s our list for 2021:

  1. Hunting Ghislaine – a recent podcast chart topper giving insights into the dark world of Ghislaine Maxwell and Jeffrey Epstein.
  2. The Tommy & Hector Podcast with Laurita Blewitt – An uplifting listen of the wild adventures and storytelling of Tommy Tiernan, Hector O’hEochagain and Laurita Blewitt.
  3. The High Performance Podcast: Jake Humphrey and Damian Hughes speak with elite athletes, business people and artists to delve into their mindset on what makes them high performers.
  4. Flip The Script: Conor O’Keeffe talks about how he as a typical Irish young adult got caught in a rut of partying and floating through life to becoming Irelands first professional adventurer and distinguished Ultra Marathon runner.
  5. The David McWilliams Podcast – David discusses current affairs and how the economy gets effected by these trends.
  6. I’m not a Monster – the truth about an American’s family journey from Indiana to the Islamic State
  7. Mens Rea – a true crime podcast about Irish & UK crimes

If you have any recommendations, please do let us know by emailing us and we can share these next time.

Love in the time of Covid…

With Valentine’s Day coming up the romantics among you will to have to get creative to be able to sweep your partner off their feet. With no shops or restaurants open what can we do to gain brownie points, here’s what I’ve gone for:

  1. DIY cocktail making – great fun and they also run a virtual bingo night, which is not so romantic!
  2. Why not double it up with a dinner kit – these 50 restaurants give you plenty food options.

Something brilliantly funny…

Did you see Sam Bennett ad starring in the new Dublin Bikes advert? We think it’s brilliant! Take a look, it will make you smile -

Also…

Job Search Rethink – This year has shifted the employment landscape considerably and we have adapted our Job Search guidance accordingly, to ensure we are providing the most valuable, up-to-date support. If you would like a 1-2-1 session on interviewing over video, cv preparation and the market, get in touch and benefit from this free service.

In sport…

Leinster once again triumphed over Munster in their tightly fought battle in Thomond Park last weekend. Leinster sit 2nd in their group with Munster leading conference B quite convincingly. It should be a close run in with all Irish provinces going very well.

The 2021 GAA season was set to start at the end of February but rumours are now circulating that it will be March before they commence. This would be a welcome distraction for the country. Don’t just take my word for it.  According to the lastest TSSI report GAA remains the most popular sport in Ireland.

Laochra Gael’s new series has brought ex-county GAA stars back to our screens to talk us through the highs and lows of their careers. You can catch this every Wednesday on TG4 – well worth a watch.

On a slightly different note…

We’ve noticed on LinkedIn a lot of people completing this 20 mins awareness course – if you have a few minutes, it’s worth completing and might help a friend - https://ohana.ie/

The ask…

Every so often we have an ask and today we would ask if you happen to be browsing LinkedIn and see our posts, if you like them please ‘like’ and ideally ‘share’ them.  If you are not looking for a role perhaps someone in your network might be interested and we try to get the word out about roles and topic we feel might be of interest to you.  It would mean a lot to us here at PeopleSource.ie

Competition time…
Each month we ask our readers to answer a question for a chance to win €100 One4all voucher. It would be a nice way to start off 2021!

Last month we asked:

Which month in 2021 do you think we will have the Covid vaccine available in Ireland?

With a variation of answers ranging from January to November – April was the most prominent answer and our winner this month is William O’Flynn, congratulations William we’ll be in touch to organise your prize.

Our question this month:

What do you miss most from pre-covid/pre-lock down? We’d love to find out what you’re missing, it could be family, travel, pubs, restaurants, shopping IRL, or anything else.  The best answer will receive €100 One4All voucher. Enter here to be in with a chance to win.

We have been super busy this month and if you would like regular updates follow our LinkedIn company page

International roles…

We work with a major telecoms company in the Caribbean, if you are considering an international move to a tax efficient environment, where the roles are varied, challenging and provide an excellent learning curve combined with an opportunity to show your initiative and commercial acumen while saving a large amount of money, get in touch to find out more!

If you are considering a move or would just like to find out where we believe the finance recruitment market is at, give us a call.  In the meantime, here is a sample of live roles which might be of interest…

Finally – if you refer a friend to PeopleSource and we place you will be given a €250 gift voucher! Not bad for helping a friend!

Thanks,

Gary M:086 781 4704
