Well goodbye June and hello July, it’s been different and already July is looking like a vast improvement. New government, new phase and new …
Interview series…
This month we are delighted hear from Aoife Duggan (Class of 2010 having trained with KPMG), Financial Controller of Trimble Rail. Click here for the full interview.
In the news…
Firstly, Happy Pride month, it was a most understated affair this month, with no fabulous & flamboyant celebrations this year, how did you celebrate?
A historic coalition has been formed. Fine Gael, Fianna Fáil & The Green Party have joined for what will be a government to remember but will it be for the right reasons? After 31 years of service, Micheál Martin becomes the 15th Taoiseach to take office. The 15th! Can you name them all?
Phase 3 of reopening the country has happened on Monday. Here are the ‘highlights’!
Now, back to point two above, the pubs have reopened! That and the hairdressers seem to have been a priority for a lot of people. I must admit, I’ve missed a pint and my hair is definitely in need of a cut. Did you go to the pub yesterday to mark the occasion? I bet a pint will never have tasted so good… oh and of course that €9 meal.
Did you watch Ireland does Comic relief on Saturday night? Once again ‘Normal People’ star Paul Mescal has managed to make the audience swoon by singing Tracy Chapmans classic ‘Baby can I hold you tonight’ with co-star Daisy Edgar Jones & Fleabag actor Andrew Scott. Over €5 million was raised. An amazing achievement. Some other notable performances from Hozier, The Den & lip sync duo Amy Huberman & Brian O’Driscoll. You can still donate here.
Have you heard ‘Women in Harmony’ covering The Cranberries ‘Dreams’? We really have some brilliant female artists on this island, what a fantastic cover which also helped to raise money for ‘Safe Ireland’. Here’s a clip if you haven’t heard it before.
In worldwide news, it’s been chaotic in the United States. Trump’s administration is coming under major scrutiny with the powerful ‘Black Lives Matter’ movement. Covid cases are at record highs in southern states. Rifts seem to be forming, will this be Joe Bidens opportunity?
In sport
The return of the English Premier League has already brought us new champions. With a record 7 games remaining Liverpool have won their first Premier League – what are Man United fans going to slag them about now? How are we finding the games with no crowds? Stats show goals and chances created have been down. Is this lack of practice or are players lacking energy without fans to spur them on?
GAA is back! Yes, our national sport has been given the green light. Intercounty & clubs are back training with championship just around the corner. Club will run until Mid-October with Intercounty seeing All Ireland finals being played on 13th (Hurling) & 19th (Football) December – it would sure make for a great early Christmas present.
As we all here at PeopleSource loved ‘The Last Dance’ we have decided to compile a list of other great sporting documentaries that you might love.

“Do you think (with safety precautions) the Leaving Cert should have gone ahead in August?”
70% of our readers believed it should have gone ahead. Most feeling the government called it too early. Congrats to this month’s winner Mark O’Shaughnessy – We’ll be in touch!
Question this month is –
Micheál Martin served his country for 31 years before securing the top job. Is our new Taoiseach the right choice?
