As November draws to a close, the festive atmosphere is building, lights are glowing, and the Christmas parties are just around the corner. The month of November is usually the calm before the storm of the indulgent December but this year November has provided plenty of news in the world of sport, politics and current affairs.
In the news...
Gay Byrne passes away at the age of 85. Gay was the first presenter of ‘the Late Late toy show’ back in 1965 and since then the Toy Show has somewhat becomes a national tradition. The 2019 toy show will air this Friday and is sure to be full of amusing moments from the kids and plenty surprises.
In the newsletter over the past 2 months we’ve discussed protests in Merrion Square and we won’t break the trend this month. Over 90 tractors showed up on Merrion square this Tuesday afternoon to protest about meat prices. There were huge disruptions within the city but let’s hope the ministers can resolve this sooner rather than later and aren’t too busy trying to fit their new €800,000 printer into the Dail.
In entertainment…
‘I’m a celebrity get me out of here’ is back on our screens and we’ve been loving the 19th series so far. Some great characters, trials and moments to keep us all amused. Do you remember Nadine Coyle and the journey to joining Girls Aloud? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=arWE_MdhGWI.
The critically acclaimed ‘The Irishman’ a true story on how a taxi driver becomes a hitman for one of the biggest Mafias in the US is now out on Netflix. A star-studded cast starring Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci is a Martin Scorsese masterpiece which is worth the 3-and-a-half-hour watch.
It’s nearly Christmas so we’ve compiled a list of movies/shows for you to enjoy while gorging on chocolate, eating too much turkey or hungover from “absolutely sending it”.
In Sport…
All-Ireland winners Dublin and Tipperary bagged seven awards each in the 2019 PwC GAA-GPA All-Stars with Stephen Cluxton (Football) and Seamie Callanan (Hurling) picking up the player of the year awards. Ireland Ladies hockey team qualified for the Olympics for the first time in history with a breath-taking penalty shoot-out. These ladies sure know how to entertain an audience! The Heineken Cup is in full swing and it has been a successful campaign for the Irish provinces so far beating some top-class opposition, lets hope they can progress to the knockout stages.
On another note…
Christmas is a time to give back. Homelessness has grown year on year and over 1725 families will be homeless this Christmas. Each year at PeopleSource do their bit. Many thanks to FoodCloud who put us through our paces. We spent the morning helping with deliveries, pickups and packing. FoodCloud is an amazing not for profit which redistributes ‘extra’ food from retailers and food producers to charities across Ireland and the UK. Thank you to Rosie, Pat, Gavin and Robert. We would highly recommend volunteering with FoodCloud – it’s educational, rewarding and fun! Here’s some stats on how they’ve helped people in need:
