Ho Ho Holidays are coming...
With less than 4 weeks to go, Christmas is very much upon us and how nice it is to have it back this year in full swing. The Christmas Party seems to be back with a bang too! Not to mention events. Party Season is back baby! Does that include the 12 Pubs?!!!
Enjoy your party season responsibly, and don’t forget 9th December - The Leinster Society Annual Christmas Lunch 2022
The winner of our quiz question this month wins €600, for answering our quiz question every month since January. Congratulations to Alex Gorey - we'll be in touch!
Let us start with the very sad passing of the incredibly brave Vicki Phelan, she gave so much of herself throughout her diagnosis. We have a lot to thank her for.
Also in November, there have been a number of redundancy announcements from many of the large multinationals. If you have been impacted, the good news is the market is still busy but if you are in anyway worried, call PeopleSource to see if we can help. Twitter was first out of the blocks, and by far the highest profile, with the redundancies: Mr. Musk is certainly making his presence felt!
Crypto currency debates tend to be dominated by the bullish and those who believe the whole thing is either a massive fraud or a risky investment. The latter camp has been boosted by the high-profile collapse of FTX and its evangelical leader Sam Bankman-Fried. Realistically, Crypto is coming but surely now the case for regulation is irrefutable. There would appear to be massive fraud at the heart of the FTX collapse.
This month also brought us COP27 with the usual ‘lots done, more to do’ outcome! In the US, have we seen the beginning of the end for Trump with the mid-term election results and some serious contenders for the 2024 Republican nomination arriving on the scene?
Did you watch the Late Late Toy Show last Friday? We did and as always loved it. In an era when watching traditional broadcast media is on the wane the Toy Show retains and has even grown in popularity and viewing figures. Russell Crowe gave it a mention on Twitter too! The €3.5m+ raised for charity during the show is a testament to both its popularity and the generosity of the people of Ireland, even in these challenging times.
‘I’m a celeb’ has packed up and left the jungle with most of the headlines going to Matt Hancock (why wasn’t he at work?). Can you believe this has been going for 21 years! The final has 12 million people voting, so they must be doing something right. Did you watch it? Well done to Jill who was crowned Queen of the Jungle.
The Harvey Weinstein scandal is at the centre of the movie “She Said” with Carey Mulligan and while reviews are mixed, the subject matter definitely benefits from the exposure. Great to see Ireland’s entry for the best Foreign Language Oscar ‘An Cailin Ciuin” winning an EU film award for photography, we’ve mentioned this movie before, but if you still haven’t caught it, treat yourself! Elsewhere, Paul Mescal is garnering lots of praise for ‘Aftersun’, with the dreaded O word being bandied about.
Here’s an eclectic list of recommendations for the coming weeks for the real movie buffs - Films for December.
Here are a few Christmas shopping & ideas to help over the next few weeks!
1. Irish craft gift ideas – we always encourage to shop local and buy Irish!
2. What presents the kids will be looking for under the tree according to the experts!
3. Christmas FM returns! My worst nightmare, but some people love it.
4. A lively Christmas without overdoing the drinking!
5. Best Christmas cocktails – and mocktails (see previous link!!)
Our heroine this month is Caithriona McConnell of Donaghmoyne. The Monaghan star got married on Saturday in the Slieve Russell, she arrived at the All Ireland Club semi-finals by helicopter on the Sunday, then top-scored with 7 points to help them beat Kilmacud Crokes and secure a place in the final, now that’s dedication! Read about it here!
The World Cup, of course, is the dominant event on our TV screens and already a host of very interesting results have this the most difficult one yet to predict with every likelihood of big names crashing out before the knock-out stages. FIFA Uncovered on Netflix is worth a watch while we're on the subject!
The rugby autumn series was a triumph for Ireland, with a hat-trick of wins, and disastrous for both Wales and England who look to be a long way off being any kind of contenders for next year’s World Cup. Special mention for Italy who signed off last year’s 6 Nations with a win over Wales and followed up with a great win against Australia.
In golf, great to see Leona Maguire coming in 4th in the Spanish Open following her 2nd place in the CME Tour Championship the previous week – knocking on the door of a top10 World Ranking! Seamus Power has given himself a real chance of a Ryder cup place with recent results and he has been selected on the GB&I team to play Europe in what has become the Ryder Cup trials, the Hero Cup.
You’ve heard the phrase New Year, New Career, but why not get ahead of the crowd and ring PeopleSource today to set up a ‘Market update’ call, rather than leave it to the January rush! Here's an article we recently wrote on the topic.
As ever, we have a great range of roles open here at PeopleSource but if you can’t find what you are looking for give us a call. There are new roles coming in all the time.
